ArcelorMittal’s French blast furnace has ceased production due to a fire

ArcelorMittal's steel plant in Fos-sur-Mer, France, has suspended operations of one blast furnace due to a fire. A709 Grade HPS 50W steel plate, In the early hours of October 8th, a fire broke out in the conveyor belt system that supplies raw materials to the blast furnace. The fire was brought under control after emergency response efforts. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, and the affected blast furnace will remain shut down during the investigation. Although the official duration of the shutdown has not been specified, it is likely to be a prolonged closure. The plant has two blast furnaces with an annual production capacity of 5 million tons of pig iron, primarily producing hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel products.

Currently, the European hot-rolled coil market is well-supplied, and a large volume of imported resources is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter. A709 Grade HPS 50W steel plate, European steel mills have recently reduced their price offers while awaiting the EU's safeguard measures ruling. With the introduction of stricter trade policy proposals, manufacturers are expected to attempt to push up hot-rolled coil prices.
