A fire broke out at a steel plant under the South Korean Pohang Iron and Steel Corporation, causing temporary shutdowns in multiple factories

On the morning of December 23rd, a fire broke out near the No. 2 blast furnace at the Gyeongsangbuk do JAC590R Steel Plant of Pohang Iron and Steel in South Korea, causing a brief power outage for most facilities, and forcing four out of five plant areas to suspend operations. After nearly two hours, the fire was initially extinguished, and the steel making plant, JAC590R steel hot rolling plant, and No. 2 and No. 3 blast furnaces resumed operation at 2 pm on the same day. The No. 4 blast furnace resumed operation on the 24th after repair work and safety inspections were completed. Due to the fact that important equipment is equipped with backup generators, it is expected that this fire will not have a significant impact on overall production activities JAC590R steel .
