ArcelorMittal begins operation of ladle furnace to reduce carbon dioxide emissions

Share:

ArcelorMittal S420N Grade L steel announced in 2022 that it will transition its Fos sur Mer steel plant in France from traditional blast furnace steel production to electric furnace steel production. They plan to introduce electric furnaces before 2027 and stop using two blast furnaces by 2030. Recently, ArcelorMittal has started operating ladle furnaces for its decarbonization project at its steel plant. These two newly built boilers each have a production capacity of 330 tons. Once fully put into use, the use of S420N Grade L steel scrap steel will increase fivefold, and the carbon dioxide emissions of steel plants are expected to decrease by about 10%.
