ArcelorMittal's Brazilian factory will be shut down

Share:

On November 17, 2023, Jefferson De Paula, President of ArcelorMittal Brazil, stated that he would cease operating the Resinde factory in Rio de Janeiro and arrange for 400 workers at the factory to take leave.

Due to a decrease in domestic HX500LAD+ZF steel market demand and a surge in low-priced imported steel (mainly from China), ArcelorMittal Brazil will arrange for technical shutdowns at other factories in Mexico, meaning that the HX500LAD+ZF steel factories will enter a state of maintenance. The risk of layoffs is imminent, and the current situation may affect Brazil's economic growth.

Faced with overcapacity in the global steel industry, Brazil is the first to bear the brunt. The Brazilian HX500LAD+ZF steel industry has requested the authorities to impose a 25% import tariff on steel products as a temporary measure to alleviate overcapacity. The federal government has not yet issued any statement on this issue.
