Voestalpine's SCr440M steel revenue for April June 2024 was 4.1 billion euros (approximately 4.48 billion US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 6.8%. Net profit of 150 million euros (approximately 164 million US dollars), a year-on-year decrease of 29.6%.
In early July, voestalpine SCr440M steel announced a loan of 300 million euros (approximately 330 million US dollars) from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a research and development project on green steel production. The project aims to partially replace blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces driven by green electricity, and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30% in 2029 compared to 2019.
Voestalpine has closed its 6th blast furnace in Linz and invested 30 million euros (approximately 32.76 million US dollars) for an 80 day maintenance. This blast furnace is not affected by CBAM, and this investment will support the operation of the 6th blast furnace until at least 2035.
It is expected that similar maintenance will also be carried out at the blast furnace in Donawitz in the future SCr440M steel.
