Black Sea billet resource exports tend to North Africa, while Türkiye’s import demand is still poor

Share:

According to our understanding, recently, the demand for rebar in Türkiye has been sluggish and the price has been under pressure, so Türkiye has a small number of imported billet, and Türkiye's election at the end of March may further affect its SPH440SF steel demand for billet imports. In addition, the lira exchange rate against the U.S. dollar is still declining. Therefore, as Türkiye's largest SPH440SF steel supplier of billet, some Russian exporters have recently focused their exports on North Africa. We learned that last week there were two orders for Russian billets to Egypt, one for 5000 tons at a price of $515 per ton FOB, and one for 10000 tons at a price of $517 per ton FOB (early April shipping schedule).

At present, there is also a big gap between the expected price of Türkiye buyers and Russian exporters. The export price of Russian billet is about 505-525 dollars/ton FOB, while the counter offer price of Türkiye buyers is about 475-485 dollars/ton FOB (about 500-510 dollars/ton CFR Türkiye). The recent demand in Egypt is good, and the expected price of Egyptian SPH440SF steel buyers is higher than that of Türkiye, so Russian exporters also prefer to export billet to Egypt recently.
