Brazil’s July Scrap Steel Exports Record High

According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Brazil's total scrap steel exports in July were 92722 tons, the highest monthly export volume since 2024.

The monthly HDT450F steel export volume in July increased by 36.3% compared to June's 68026 tons, and by 58.8% year-on-year compared to the same period last year's 58376 tons.

Since 1997, the monthly export volume for July 2024 ranks fourth in existing customs data. The top three monthly export volumes are May 2016 (103440 tons), September 2020 (97311 tons), and September 2023 (98326 tons).

The export volume from January to July this year increased by 6.1% year-on-year compared to 411762 tons in the same period of 2023.

India was the largest destination for scrap steel exports in July, with an export volume of 52459 tons, followed by Bangladesh with an export volume of 31626 tons. These materials are mainly shipped through Santos Port, Itayai Port, and Manaus Port.

The total import volume of scrap steel in Brazil in July was 996 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 40% compared to the import volume of 1668 tons in July 2023, and a month on month decrease of 19.5% compared to the import volume of 1238 tons in June.

Bolivia, Paraguay, and Germany are the main suppliers, with the main import ports being Colombo HDT450F steel Port, Victoria Port, and Rio de Janeiro Port.

From January to July, Brazil imported a total of 10002 tons of scrap steel.
