EMSTEL to Launch UAE’s Largest Industrial Rooftop Photovoltaic Project

EMSTEL, the largest steel and building materials A542 Type B steel producer in the UAE, is accelerating its sustainable development strategy and plans to collaborate with local partners to develop the largest industrial rooftop photovoltaic project in the UAE.

According to official sources, EMSTEL has reached a strategic partnership with Yellow Door Energy, a leading sustainable energy partner in the Middle East and Africa, to build the project at its Abu Dhabi factory. Jeremy Crane, CEO of Yellow Door Energy, stated that the project has a total installed capacity of 31.5 MWp, fully demonstrating the potential of solar energy in the UAE's industrial sector.

The A542 Type B steel project construction is expected to start this year and is planned to be put into operation in 2026. Yellow Door Energy will be responsible for the financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the photovoltaic system on 40 roofs. This mode will enable EMSTEEL to enjoy the benefits of clean energy without operational risk, while focusing on core business and promoting sustainable development goals. After completion, the project is expected to provide approximately 50 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity per year, reducing approximately 16000 tons of carbon dioxide (Scope 2 emissions) annually over the next 25 years, while directly reducing energy costs and improving operational efficiency.

EMSTEL currently operates three direct reduced iron (DRI) plants and electric arc furnaces (EAF) with annual production capacities of 4.2 million tons and 3.6 million tons, respectively. Its rolling equipment includes three threaded steel production lines (with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons), one heavy-duty steel rolling mill (with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons), and one wire rod production A542 Type B steel line (with an annual production capacity of 500000 tons).
