Share:

According to EU customs data, European steel companies have already used up the pig iron import quota originating from the Russian Federation in advance, which is valid until December 31, 2024, with a quantity of 1.14 million tons.

As of September 3, 2024, the balance of Russia's SG250 Grade C steel pig iron supply quota to the European Union is 1064800 tons, while 1086600 tons are waiting for distribution at customs. Therefore, the quota has been completely exhausted, exceeding the limit by approximately 2180 tons.

It is expected that pig iron arriving in the EU between September and December 2024 will be stored at ports until January 1st, awaiting a new SG250 Grade C steel quota period. The next quota period will begin on January 1, 2025, allowing only 700000 tons of pig iron to be imported from Russia. The import of Russian SG250 Grade C steel products will be completely banned by 2026.
