Erdemir, a comprehensive steel manufacturer in Türkiye, obtained the environmental approval from the Ministry of Environment for its large-scale solar power plant in Hekimhan, Malaysia S355M Grade L steel on September 23, and the relevant announcement has been published on the website of the Ministry of Environment. According to the project documents, the installed capacity of the power plant is 235 MWe, with an estimated annual power generation of 557 million kilowatt hours, requiring the installation of 567270 solar panels. The power plant will be put into operation within 24 months.
According to the carbon reduction roadmap, Oyak S355M Grade L steel plans to reduce the first and second category greenhouse gas emissions from steel plant facilities by 25% by 2030, 40% by 2040, and achieve zero emissions by 2050.
According to Mysteel, Erdemir Steel mainly produces hot coils, cold coils, galvanized coils, sheet metal, and tinplate, while Oyak's Isdemir Steel Plant mainly produces sheet metal, wire rods, and hot coils. The annual production capacity of crude steel in both plants reaches 9.1 million tons. We assessed that on September 20, Türkiye's S355M Grade L steel domestic hot roll (HRC) price was 575 US dollars/ton EXW, a decrease of 20% from the beginning of 2024.
