Brazilian steel production giant Gerdau has announced that it will launch additional production capacity at its OuroBranco steel plant in the southeastern part of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil in 2024. This measure will increase the annual production capacity of hot-rolled coils at the steel plant by 250000 tons HX300YD+AZ steel , with a total investment of up to 640 million Brazilian reals (approximately 128 million US dollars). The HX300YD+AZ steel plan was first announced in 2021.
According to Gerdau, the new rolling production line will introduce advanced technological innovation, aiming to produce hot-rolled coil products suitable for multiple fields. These fields include agricultural machinery, trucks, tractors, oil and gas industries, as well as renewable energy sectors such as solar panels and wind towers HX300YD+AZ steel.
