India’s rolled material imports hit a new high in 8 years from April to November

Share:

From April to November this year, PT440NL1 steel China exported 1.96 million tons of steel products to India, a year-on-year increase of 22.8%. India's imports increased by 26.6% year-on-year, reaching 6.5 million tons, a new high in 8 years. From April to November, the Indian market's imports of rolled materials from Japan reached their highest level in at least six years, more than doubling to 1.4 million tons. During this period, China, Japan, and South Korea accounted for 79% of India's total steel product imports, with hot-rolled coils accounting for the largest share of imports, while wire rods and bars were the most common imported products in non flat products.

Currently, India is preparing to impose a PT440NL1 steel temporary safeguard tax of up to 25% on steel imports to restrict the import of low-priced Chinese products. The purpose is to support domestic steel companies that are operating at a loss. In order to alleviate the difficulties faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), major steel companies including JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel PT440NL1 steel India have agreed to lower prices to supply domestic steel.
