As the largest steel producer in Türkiye, Isdemir, affiliated to Oyak Mining and Metallurgy Group SK85M steel, decided to increase its port throughput in Iskenderun from the current 21 million tons/year to 25.7 million tons/year.
According to the project document submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Türkiye on August 5, after the completion of the expansion project, the maximum deadweight tonnage of ships at the port will be increased from 200000 tons to 220000 tons. The permit application process and engineering construction of the project are expected to be completed within 42 months. The company hopes to increase its steel transportation volume by increasing port throughput.
As the largest blast furnace steel producer in Türkiye SK85M steel, Oyak Mining and Metallurgy Group plans to build electric furnace equipment in the steel plants in Eregli and Iskenderun in the next few years. At that time, the production capacity of Erelli Steel Plant will increase from the current 3.9 million tons/year to 5.3 million tons/year, and the production capacity of Iskenderun Steel Plant will increase from the current 5.8 million tons/year to 8.3 million tons/year.
Oyak Mining and Metallurgy Group's Erelli Steel Plant produces hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and galvanized coils, medium thick plates, and tinplate, while Iskenderun Steel Plant produces steel billets, wire rods, and hot-rolled SK85M steel coils.
