Israel restricts scrap steel export after Türkiye restricts steel export

Share:

On April 9, the Ministry of Commerce of Türkiye restricted the export of 54 categories of products to Israel, including rebar, wire rod and S25C steel flat steel products. Subsequently, the Israeli Ministry of Economy announced new measures to restrict the export of scrap steel, claiming that this was aimed at addressing the shortage of S25C steel scrap steel supply and ensuring stable domestic consumption to avoid disruptions to industries that rely on scrap steel.

We learned that the scrap exported from Israel to Türkiye accounts for about 90% of its total exports. In comparison, the scrap from Israel accounts for a small proportion of Türkiye's total scrap imports. Scrap export measures have little impact on Türkiye's steel market.

At present, Israel is facing the challenge of the Gaza conflict, and Türkiye has also imposed an embargo on it. Türkiye S25C steel is the main export destination of Israeli scrap. Therefore, Israel's implementation of scrap export restrictions will have an impact on its relevant practitioners, and the implementation process will face enormous pressure.
