Italy’s Non EU Imports Decrease Significantly from January to May

From January to May this year, Italy's steel trade imports and exports with non EU countries (excluding the UK) showed a downward trend. Italy SAE J2340 180B steel imported 4.588 million tons from non EU countries, a decrease of 3.2% compared to the same period in 2023. During the same period, exports were 1.328 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.9%. In terms of imports, specifically, the import volume of long materials decreased by 36.7% compared to January May 2023. Among them, the import of threaded steel decreased by 72.7%, and the import of wire decreased by 23.2%. In terms of sheet SAE J2340 180B steel metal, imports decreased by 1.6%, especially imports of electroplated zinc decreased by 40.0%, while imports of organic coated SAE J2340 180B steel sheet and hot-dip galvanized sheet increased by 113.6% and 56.6% respectively year-on-year. The export of long timber decreased by 18.5%, while the export of sheet metal increased by 5.4%.
