Throughout 2024, Italy's A387 Grade 22 steel production decreased by 5% compared to 2023, reaching 20 million tons. The annual output of long timber was 11.7 million tons, a decrease of 0.2% compared to 2023, and the output of sheet metal was 8.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%. The reason for this is that, driven by the growth of construction activities, the production of long timber has only slightly decreased, while the weakness of the automotive and industrial industries, as well as a large number of competitive imports, have had a negative impact on the production of flat timber.
Overall, EU steel A387 Grade 22 steel production in 2024 increased by 2.6% compared to 2023, reaching 129.5 million tons, while global steel production was 1.8826 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%.
