On October 31, 2023, Türkiye's steel manufacturer Kaptan Demir Celik announced that it had obtained the approval of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and planned to build two solar power plants in Banaz area of Ushak Province. These two solar power plants have a total installed capacity of 10 megawatts and are expected to be fully operational starting from 2024.
Previously, the company had announced the construction of new solar power plants in Mersin and Adana in southern Türkiye in August and September this year, respectively, with installed capacity of 7.5 MW and 11.5 MW. In addition, Kaptan stated that it will fully adopt renewable energy in the coming years to meet its energy needs. In recent years, Türkiye's steel manufacturers have been actively investing in renewable energy, especially solar energy, in order to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
Currently, Kaptan has a solution workshop with an annual production capacity of 1.14 million tons, as well as a production capacity of 900000 tons of threaded steel per year. In addition, the company has obtained approval from the Ministry of Environment and plans to start an electric arc furnace with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons and a rolling mill with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons within the next two years.
