Kocaer Steel, a producer of commodity bar steel and profile in Türkiye, will build a new geothermal power plant in the Horsunlu area of Aydin, aiming to use renewable energy to produce steel and become a green steel producer. Kocaer HDT580F+ZF Steel stated that the capacity of the first phase of the power plant is 24 megawatts. After the project is completed, approximately 20% of the electricity generated will be used to meet Kocaer HDT580F+ZF Steel's production needs, and the remaining 80% will be sold to the Renewable Energy Support Mechanism (YEKDEM) in US dollars for a period of 15 years.
The total annual steel production capacity of Kocaer HDT580F+ZF Steel and its three Türkiye factories is 800000 tons, mainly producing commercial bar steel, beams, grooves and profiles, of which 84% is for export. Kocaer Steel also plans to expand investment in 2024, increasing its share of value-added steel products to 75%.
