Low demand in the Italian market, leading to a decline in imported slab prices

Share:

We have learned that due to sluggish demand and weak market fundamentals, especially the impact of falling iron ore prices, the prices of imported slabs from Italy have recently declined.

The demand for slab in some parts of Asia is weak, coupled with Italy's JSH270E steel holiday in the past two weeks and insufficient market demand. Some Asian slab suppliers have lowered their prices for Italy, but the lower prices have not brought in new orders.

An Indonesian supplier quoted a slab JSH270E steel price of $500/ton FOB, equivalent to $540-550/ton CFR, a decrease of $30-40/ton compared to the previous week. A steel mill in Vietnam quoted similar products at $530 per ton FOB, a decrease of $5-10 per ton compared to the previous week. The price of high-quality slab in China is $575-600 per ton CFR, a decrease of $10-15 per ton compared to the previous week. The quotation for Indian slab has dropped to $585-595 per ton CFR, a month on month decrease of $5-15 per ton.

A buyer source stated that the recent transaction was reached on March 29th at a price of $570 per ton of CFR, with the slab sourced from Indonesia JSH270E steel.
