Middle East Steel Market in the Second Week of November 2023

Share:

In the past week, due to the impact of the release of the anti-dumping investigation, the export price of Türkiye's hot-rolled steel coils has risen, but the demand is still weak. The ex factory price of hot rolled HCT600C+Z steel coils in Türkiye this week was between 630-650 dollars/ton, a slight increase compared with the previous week, and some market participants said that most HCT600C+Z steel mills did not accept the price lower than 640 dollars/ton EXW, and only one steel mill in Izmir could make a deal at this price. We estimate that the price of hot rolled HCT600C+Z steel coils in Türkiye this week is 630 dollars/ton EXW. It is reported that most market participants are not optimistic about this price increase, believing it to be limited and short-lived. The main reason for this increase is due to the continued strong import scrap prices and the implementation of anti-dumping investigations, which have resulted in no substantial growth in the demand for hot-rolled steel coils in the local market. If the domestic market demand in Türkiye rises in the future, the price rise of hot rolled steel coils this week may be maintained.

In the past week, due to the increase in Asian hot-rolled steel coil prices, the prices of imported hot-rolled steel coils from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have increased compared to the previous week. It is reported that the mainstream export quotation for hot rolled steel coils in China is 590-593 US dollars per ton of CFR, with a weekly increase of about 20-25 US dollars per ton. The UAE buyer attempted to trade at a price of 560 US dollars per ton of CFR, but it was not successful. However, a small number of buyers traded at a price of 585-590 US dollars per ton of CFR. The export quotation for mainstream hot rolled steel coils in Japan is between 600-610 US dollars per ton CFR, with a weekly increase of approximately 10 US dollars per ton. We evaluate that the price of imported hot-rolled steel coils from the United Arab Emirates this week is between $585-600 per ton CFR, an increase of around $10-15 per ton compared to the previous week. On the Saudi Arabian side, the export price of 1.2mm hot rolled steel coils from China ranges from 630-635 US dollars per ton of CFR, an increase of approximately 10-14 US dollars per ton from last week's 620-630 US dollars per ton of CFR. The Saudi Arabian buyer wanted to trade CFR at $620-630 per ton, but did not listen to the transaction. We evaluate that the price of imported hot rolled steel coils (1.2mm in size) from Saudi Arabia this week is 625-630 US dollars per ton of CFR, a slight increase compared to the previous week.
