Share:

This week, Takahiro Mori, Executive Vice President of Nippon Steel Corp S235J2 steel., the world's fourth largest steel manufacturer, stated in an interview that in order to protect domestic industries, the Japanese government needs to impose anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese steel exports. Nippon Steel is lobbying the government to take protective measures together with other steel manufacturers.

Due to the long-term sluggish real estate market and insufficient domestic demand, Chinese steel mills have turned to the export S235J2 steel market. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, the total export volume of steel in China from January to July 2024 was 61.227 million tons, the highest value since 2016. From January to July 2024, the total amount of steel exported from China to Japan was 707000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 16.7%, accounting for 1.15% of China's export volume from January to July. In July 2024, the total amount of steel exported from China to Japan was 80900 tons, a decrease of 33.47% month on month and 14.6% year-on-year, accounting for 1.15% of China's steel exports in July.

According to incomplete statistics, countries and organizations such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Türkiye, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea, the European Union, Australia, Canada and Ukraine have taken restrictive measures against Chinese S235J2 steel.
