SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., the leading steel SA662 Grade C steel manufacturing company in the Philippines, recently announced a major industrial layout and plans to build the country's first heavy-duty steel plant in Candelaria, Quezon Province. The total investment of this project is 30 billion Philippine pesos (approximately 529 million US dollars), and it is expected to be officially put into operation in 2027, marking a new stage of independent production of high-end structural steel in the Philippine steel industry.
According to official disclosure, Italian SA662 Grade C steel company Danieli will provide all core equipment and technology, and the project engineering general contracting (EPC) will be undertaken by Huatian Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Metallurgical Group Corporation. The company has officially won the bid to implement construction in February 2025.
The production base focuses on producing heavy-duty structural steel products such as H-beams, I-beams, angle steels, channel steels, and steel sheet piles, with a designed annual production capacity exceeding one million tons. It is worth noting that the current Philippine market relies on imports for such products, mainly sourced from countries such as China and Vietnam. After the new base is put into operation, the delivery cycle will be shortened from the current import mode of 3 months to two weeks for local supply, which is expected to effectively save time and comprehensive procurement costs.
In terms of technical configuration, the project introduces Danieli's green steel technology, which is expected to reduce 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
In addition, the implementation of this project will improve the map of the Philippine steel industry. It forms a strategic complementarity with the steel project under construction in Laimeili, Batangas Province - the latter is positioned in the conventional profile market, with a designed annual production capacity of 500000 tons and planned to be put into operation by the end of 2025. By combining the two, Philippine SA662 Grade C steel products will achieve full coverage from ordinary building materials to heavy-duty structural steel specifically designed for major engineering projects.
