Russia Suspends Exports of Precious Metal Waste

Share:

According to the Russian Ministry of Economy, Russia has suspended the export of precious metal waste in order to increase the processing capacity of Russian refineries and raise taxes.

According to the resolution signed by the government, the validity period of this restriction measure is six months, from May 20 to November 20, 2024. During this period, Russia HR550LA steel will no longer export precious metal waste, precious metal coated metals, and other waste containing precious metals or precious metal compounds. This temporary ban also applies to the export of electronic waste, which is mainly used for extracting precious metals.

The ban does not apply to samples extracted from cathode antimony ingots or precious metal waste exported from refineries, provided that the HR550LA steel weight of each batch of samples traded does not exceed 500 grams.

Similar restrictive measures took effect from November 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024, and from March 20, 2023 to September 20, 2023. These measures increased the processing volume of Russian processing enterprises (including precious metal refineries) and attracted a large amount of secondary HR550LA steel raw materials containing precious metals to enter the precious metal processing and production field.
