On September 10th, according to data released by industry analysis firm Chermet, Russia's crude steel S355 Grade D production decreased year-on-year for the eighth consecutive month in August. Specifically, the production in August was 5.6 million tons, a decrease of 5% month on month and 13.8% year-on-year. The production in July was 5.9 million tons.
In addition, the production of molten iron decreased by 6.7% year-on-year to 4.3 million tons, but increased by 2.5% month on month. The production of finished rolled steel was 5 million tons, with a greater decrease of 13.8% year-on-year and 2% month on month. The production of pipes decreased by 7.0% year-on-year to 1.1 million tons, unchanged from the previous period.
According to Chermet, in the first eight months of this year, Russia's steel production decreased by 5.4% to 48 million tons, while molten iron S355 Grade D production decreased by 6.0% year-on-year to 34.3 million tons. During the same period, the production of finished steel decreased by 4% to 42.3 million tons. In addition, Russia also produced 8.5 million tons of steel S355 Grade D steel pipes, a decrease of 3% compared to the same period last year.
