We have learned that the Steel Executive Federation (SEFI) of India plans to hold a council meeting in New Delhi on January 5, 2024 (Friday) to discuss the merger and restructuring of Visakhapat South Steel Plant under Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) and S390GD+Z steel, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). In addition, the proposal to merge NMDC Nagarnar Steel Plant (located in Chhattisgarh) with SAIL will also be the focus of this meeting. Representatives of SAIL employees from various regions and executives from Visakapatnam S390GD+Z steel,Steel Plant will attend this meeting.

Recently, due to political and other factors, the central government of India has withdrawn its decision to privatize Salem Steel (located in Tamil Nadu) and Nagarnar Steel (located in Chhattisgarh). Relevant personnel expect the government to provide a similar response to the privatization plan of Visakapatnan Steel Plant.

At present, the Indian government is formulating a series of policies to address existing issues, including allowing private partner JSPL to restart the No. 3 blast furnace under the Visakhapat South Steel Plant in the name of financial assistance. In addition, the Indian government plans to merge Salem Steel with state-owned enterprises S390GD+Z steel.
