Last week, the abnormal fluctuations in spot electricity prices on the European A424 Type I steel Electricity Exchange (Epex spot) forced German steel bar manufacturer Ferrarpi Stahl to suspend production for a whole day. The price of the Epex spot market soared to nearly 3000 euros ($3223) per megawatt hour, and then fell back to normal A424 Type I steel prices below 50 euros around noon. It is reported that the price only reaches its peak in the morning and evening, with lower prices during the day. If continued operation, the loss to the company will exceed 7 figures (euros). However, just shutting down for 7 hours is not significant and the cost will be higher. Therefore, Ferrarpi Stahl A424 Type I steel has decided to shut down the factory for 24 hours.
