South Africa initiates anti-dumping investigation on Chinese steel sections

On September 20, 2024, the South African S620QL1 steel International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) (on behalf of the Southern African Union - SACU, SACU includes five countries: South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini) issued a notice to launch an anti-dumping investigation on the U-sections, I-sections, and S620QL1 steel H-sections of Iron or Non alloy Steel imported from China and Thailand at the application of Arcelor Mittal Rails and Structures Ltd Pty. The South African tax codes for the products involved are 7216.31, 7216.32, 7216.33, and 7216.50. The products involved are U-shaped steel, I-shaped steel, and H-shaped steel of iron or non alloy steel, which have not been further processed after hot rolling, hot drawing, or extrusion, with a height of 80 millimeters or more (excluding H-shaped steel with a height greater than 200 millimeters), as well as equal angle steel of iron or non alloy steel (which has not been further processed after hot rolling S620QL1 steel, hot drawing, or extrusion). The dumping investigation period for this case is from April 1, 2022 to March 30, 2024. The damage investigation period is from April 1, 2021 to March 30, 2024.
