South Africa launches safeguard measures investigation on imported steel flat rolled products

On December 27, 2024, the South African PT550ML1 steel International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) (on behalf of the Southern African Union - SACU, SACU includes five countries: South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini) issued a notice to launch a safeguard measure investigation on the imported flat rolled steel products in response to the application submitted by the South African enterprise ArcelorMittal South Arica Limited.

The specific products are as follows: iron and non alloy steel flat rolled products with a width of 600mm or more, coated, plated or coated with PT550ML1 steel aluminum zinc alloy, with a thickness less than 0.45mm (Flat rolled Products of Iron, Non aligned Steel, of a width of 600 mm or more, clad, plated or coated, with aluminum zinc alloys, of a thickness less than 0.45mm). The South African tax numbers of the products involved are 7210.61.20 and 7210.61.30; Other alloy steel flat rolled products with a width of 600 millimeters or more, zinc coating or coating, and a thickness less than 0.45mm (Flat rolled Products of other Alloy Steel, of a width of 600 mm or more, other plated or coated, with zinc, of a thickness of less than 0.45mm) have South African tariff numbers 7225.92.25 and 7225.92.35. The investigation PT550ML1 steel period for damages in this case is from May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2024.
