The latest report released by the Spanish S390N Grade D steel National Iron and Steel Association (Unesd) on September 24th shows that Spain's crude steel production in July reached 839000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 1%. Despite the impact of seasonal holidays, the monthly production in July has slowed down from the previous three months' levels of over 1 million tons. However, in the 12 months ending in July, the basic production of crude steel achieved an 8% year-on-year increase, reaching 11.8 million tons, the highest level in 16 months.

As the fourth largest steel S390N Grade D steel producer in Europe, Spain has a maximum annual production capacity of nearly 23 million tons. It is worth noting that the amount of scrap steel recovered in July increased by 4% year-on-year, reaching 615000 tons, which is the lowest monthly total so far this year. However, in the past 12 months ending in July, the cumulative amount of scrap steel recovered was 9.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5%, which is the highest level S390N Grade D steel since March 2023.

In addition, the proportion of recycled steel in Spain's steel production averaged 79% in the 12 months ending in July, slightly lower than the peak of 82% in the 12 months ending in August 2023.
