Stable prices of domestic hot coils in Europe, no advantage in imported resources

Share:

In the Northwest European market, the price of hot coils in Germany has currently bottomed out. Although demand is weak, there is expected to be a wave of restocking, so short-term demand may recover. Moreover, the S15C steel production capacity of European steel mills can deliver hot coils within the specified deadline, so there is no pressure to place orders. The current hot coil price in southern Europe is 620 euros/ton EXW Italy (663 US dollars/ton), with little change compared to the previous week. In the Nordic market, prices are relatively high, currently ranging from 630-640 euros/ton EXW (674-685 US dollars/ton), with actual transaction prices fluctuating downwards by 10-30 euros/ton depending on the number of tons. The Nordic S15C steel prices have also remained at around 630 euros/ton EXW, with a decrease of 5 euros/ton compared to the previous week.

In terms of the import S15C steel market, due to exchange rate fluctuations, the competitiveness of import prices has decreased. This week, the European exchange rate against the US dollar fell from 1:1.08 to 1:1.06. Therefore, as the exchange rate changes, the advantage of imported resources is continuously weakening. The price of imports from India and Japan (10 tons) ranges from 600 to 610 euros/ton CFR, coupled with a long delivery cycle of imported resources, resulting in weak transaction volume of imported resources.
