On October 9th, Spanish S620Q steel media reported that Acerinox, the largest stainless steel producer in Spain, plans to suspend its 1 million ton annual production smelter located in Los Barrios, Cadiz Province, Spain from October 12th. This move was made after reaching a temporary layoff agreement with workers. It is understood that the union and management reached a new agreement in July, which is valid until 2027, after the factory took strike action.
According to the S620Q steel information released by the Cadiz Daily, due to sluggish demand and customer loss, the hot rolling mill of the factory will be shut down on October 12th, and the cold rolling mill may be shut down subsequently.
Acerinox operates stainless steel plants in Spain, the United States, and South Africa, and has high-performance alloy production facilities in Germany with a total smelting capacity of 3.5 million tons per year. In addition, the company has clearly stated that its Malaysian subsidiary Baru S620Q steel Stainless Steel ceased production in May.
