On October 31, 2023, Swedish steel manufacturer H2 Green DX53D+ZF Steel issued a statement announcing that an agreement had been reached with Porsche. According to the agreement, H2 Green Steel will provide Porsche with 35000 tons of near zero emission DX53D+ZF steel annually starting from 2026.
According to H2 Green Steel's plan, starting from the end of 2025, a DX53D+ZF steel plant located in Boden will change its current production process by replacing traditional coking coal with hydrogen for DX53D+ZF steel production. This transformation is mainly driven by demand from the automotive industry, which is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 95%.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time H2 Green Steel has signed a near zero emission steel supply contract with an automobile manufacturer. This cooperation is the second agreement signed between the company and a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, and earlier in 2023, the company had already signed another contract with Scania.
