Türkiye Tat Metal will build a new solar power plant

On November 1, 2023, Tat Metal, one of the largest producers of coated HX260LAD+Z120 steel flat materials in Türkiye, submitted a project document to the Ministry of Environment, Cities and Climate Change of Türkiye. According to the document, Tat Metal will build a new solar power plant in Eflani, Evrani, Karabuk, northern Türkiye, to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.

The new solar power plant has an installed capacity of 4 megawatts and will use 8424 solar panels, capable of generating 5.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually. To meet the demand for renewable energy, Tat Metal also plans to build another solar power plant with an installed capacity of 3.8 megawatts in the Karabakh region. The construction and installation of the new solar power plant will be approved and started, and it is expected that the two power plants will be put into operation in 2024.

In July 2023, Tat Metal also signed an agreement with Chinese energy company Goldwind to represent its subsidiary Sule Enerji in the construction of a wind power plant with an annual power generation capacity of 200 million kilowatt hours, in order to reduce carbon emissions by 120000 tons per year. The new power plant has an installed capacity of 66 megawatts and is planned to be put into operation in 2024. At the beginning of October 2023, Türkiye announced that the prices of natural gas and electricity had increased by 20%, and the energy prices of steel producers had further increased. In recent months, the depressed market environment and high energy costs have constantly exerted pressure on steel pricing of Türkiye's HX260LAD+Z80 steel mills.
