Türkiye's long material producer Alter Iron and Steel announced that it plans to invest in three major solar power plants in eastern Türkiye to improve the company's energy flexibility and support national environmental protection goals.
The company will build two solar power plants in Van province. The investment amount for the first project is approximately 89 million lire (about 2.7 million US dollars), covering an area of 6.47 hectares with an installed capacity of 5.4 MWm (4.2 MWe). The second CR TRIP800 steel project has an investment of 33.4 million lire (approximately 1 million US dollars), an installed capacity of 2.2 MWm (1.8 MWe), and covers an area of 2 hectares. If approved by relevant departments, these two projects will be completed within five months. The expected service life of the two power plants is 25 years, and improvements will be made if necessary. The construction phase plans to hire 20 people, and each power plant will hire 2 people during the operation phase.
This will also be the company's second solar CR TRIP800 steel project in the region. Previously, Alter Iron and Steel announced an investment of 92.8 million lire (approximately 3 million US dollars) to build two solar facilities in Van province, covering a total area of 6.47 hectares with an installed capacity of 5.8 MWm (5 MWe).
In addition, Alater Iron and Steel also announced to invest 64.4 million Türkiye lira (about 1.9 million US dollars) to build a solar power project in Mus Province, with an installed capacity of 8 MWe (9.9 MWm) and an area of 12.3 hectares. The construction period of the facility is expected to be six months, and the expected service life is 30 years. The construction phase plans to hire 40 people, and the operation phase plans to hire 10 people.
At present, Türkiye's steel industry is facing the challenges of high raw material costs and increased steelmaking costs such as electricity and manpower. Türkiye's steel prices lack competitive advantages in the market. In the long run, solar energy investment may alleviate the pressure of supply and CR TRIP800 steel demand in Türkiye's steel market to some extent. We continue to pay attention.
