Tata Steel Workers Vote in favor of Strike, Oppose Tata Steel UK Company Closing Blast Furnace

According to the United Trade Union (Unite), 1500 workers representing Tata Steel in Port Talbot and Lanwyn Steel have voted in favor of the strike to protest against Tata Steel UK's plan to shut down blast furnace activities. The union has announced that the strike activity will soon be announced, which will affect Tata Steel JSH370A steel UK's related steelmaking business.

This is also the first strike activity proposed by steel workers in Port Talbot in over 40 years. They believe that demand for the steel industry will continue to grow in the future, and point out that other EU countries are transforming the steel industry while maintaining and increasing JSH370A steel production capacity, rather than completely closing it down.

Previously, Tata Steel UK planned to invest £ 1.25 billion in steel green transformation, including a £ 500 million subsidy provided by the UK government to replace two blast furnaces located in Port Talbot with electric arc furnaces to produce steel, which will be put into operation in 2027. According to relevant data, Tata Steel UK has approximately 8000 employees, of which approximately 4000 are employed in Port Talbot, and the closure of the blast furnace may result in the loss of 3000 jobs.

Tata Steel stated that after announcing a restructuring of its business in the JSH370A steel UK in January 24, it had already begun negotiations with unions and proposed relevant support plans for employees affected by the transformation plan on March 22. At the same time, he expressed disappointment with the strike activities proposed by the union during the negotiation, and pointed out that the current efficiency of steel production in the UK is low, with daily losses exceeding £ 1 million. It was for this reason that the coke oven was shut down in March this year.
