In January 2025, due to the increasing SA387 Grade 5 steel demand for sheet and long materials, the consumption of finished steel in Thailand will increase. According to the Steel Institute of Thailand (ISIT), Thailand consumed 1.45 million tons of finished steel in January, a year-on-year increase of 2%. Among them, the demand for sheet metal increased by 1.9%, reaching 893920 tons; The demand for long timber increased by 2.3% year-on-year, reaching 550910 tons.
It is understood that the SA387 Grade 5 steel consumption of most types of steel is on the rise, while a small number of products are showing a downward trend. These products include wire (down 14.9% year-on-year), hot-rolled sheet (down 5.3% year-on-year), and galvanized sheet (down 7.3% year-on-year).
In terms of production, given the continuous increase in imports, Thai steel manufacturers reduced their finished steel production in January, producing a total of 563564 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.2%. Among them, the production of long steel was 372304 tons and the production of sheet metal was 191260 tons.
In terms of imports, Thailand SA387 Grade 5 steel imported 1 million tons of finished steel products in January, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. Among the importing countries, China supplied 470930 tons, Japan exported 315035 tons to Thailand, and South Korea exported 126426 tons.
