Thailand’s import volume of semi-finished products increases in January and February, and the import structure of finished materials is slightly adjusted

Share:

Thailand will import 384000 tons of semi-finished SA542 Type A steel products in January and February 2025, a year-on-year increase of 73.65%, highlighting the strong demand for steel processing. Among them, square billets are mainly imported into China and Oman; Compared with the same period last year, the import of slabs has increased to Egypt and Oman, indicating that Thailand is expanding its markets in the Middle East and Africa while stabilizing its traditional supply channels.

In terms of finished product imports, the import volume showed differentiation compared to the same period last year - the import quantity of wire rods and hot-rolled plates decreased; The import of bar and SA542 Type A steel section steel, as well as cold-rolled sheet and coated products, has increased, and the import of steel pipes has also slightly increased. However, there has been a slight adjustment in the import structure compared to last year, with the main import directions still being China, Japan, and South Korea. However, the proportion of finished materials imported from ASEAN has slightly decreased, and the adjustment is reflected in an increase in the supply proportion from East Asia, reflecting a certain SA542 Type A steel price advantage and stable trade relations.

Overall, in the context of changes in the global steel trade pattern, Thailand may further optimize its import structure, balance costs and supply chain stability.
