After the earthquake on March 28th, the Department of A553 Type III steel Railway Transport (DRT) of Thailand collaborated with the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to conduct on-site inspections of the Thailand China high-speed railway A553 Type III steel project (Contract 3-1) and collected steel samples to verify whether it meets safety standards.
The relevant departments visited the construction site of the Bangkok Nakhon Ratchasima Phase I section, especially the Kaeng Khoi Klang Dong and Pang Asok Bandai Ma sections. The inspection team extracted five specifications of SD40 grade threaded steel (DB10, DB12, DB16, DB20, DB25) supplied by Tata Steel (Thailand) and Thai Steel Profile Company, and sent them to the Thai Steel Research Institute for testing.
On April 3rd, SRT officials and structural engineers had completed the first batch of sampling from the Muaklai storage site. Preliminary testing shows that the steel meets the high-speed rail construction standards: yield strength ≥ 400 megapascals, tensile strength>540 megapascals, elongation ≥ 16%. The results of chemical composition testing are yet to be announced.
As of the end of March 2025, the overall progress of the Bangkok Nakhon Ratchasima high-speed railway project has reached 42.914%, and the progress of Section 3-1 is 8%. No structural damage or cracking caused by earthquakes was found in the inspected section.
The Thai Railway A553 Type III steel Authority emphasizes that it will continue to strictly control the quality of materials and construction standards to ensure public confidence in the safety of Thai railway infrastructure.
