The UK Trade Remedies Agency (TRA) proposes to extend steel safeguard measures until 2026

Share:

In September 2023, the UK Trade Relief Authority (TRA) initiated an extension review of steel safeguard measures. As of February 21, 2024, TRA has completed the review and released preliminary review results. The results show that after the expiration of the safeguard measures, the import volume of steel may significantly increase, and at that time, producers of 15 types of steel in the UK may suffer serious damage again. To avoid the adverse effects of a surge in imports on the UK steel A792 Grade 80(550) steel industry, TRA suggests extending the UK's steel safeguard measures for an additional two years. Parties that may be affected by the preliminary results of the delayed review, such as importers, exporters of steel products, or producers of similar products in the UK, are required to respond to TRA's Final Declaration of Intent by March 7, 2024. Subsequently, TRA will submit the final proposal to the Secretary of State for Commerce and Trade for approval A792 Grade 80(550) steel.

The current safeguard measures cover 15 types of steel and were originally scheduled to expire on June 30, 2024. If the measure is extended, its validity period will be extended until June 30, 2026. In addition, if a company determines that the UK industry may be threatened by dumping or subsidizing imported products, it may apply for other trade remedies for specific categories of steel products A792 Grade 80(550) steel.
