Increased demand uncertainty, Tokyo Iron&Steel April steel prices remain unchanged

Share:

Considering the many uncertain factors in the market, Tokyo Steel's steel prices remained unchanged in April. At present, the price of rebar (13-25mm) is 98000 yen/ton (646 US dollars/ton), hot coil (1.7-22mm) is 107000 yen/ton (706 US dollars/ton), hot-dip galvanized (0.6mm) is 143000 yen/ton (943 US dollars/ton), and medium thick plate (9-40mm) is 118000 yen/ton (778 US dollars/ton).

The country's SPH780 steel manufacturing production activity has slowed down for some time, with its manufacturing PMI dropping from 48 in January to 47.2 in February, hitting a new low in over three years and falling below the boom bust line for nine consecutive months. In addition, against the backdrop of shrinking SPH780 steel demand, Toyota and Nissan have respectively lowered their total sales forecasts for the fiscal year 2023 (March 31, 2023 to March 31, 2024) by 2% and 4%, resulting in a decrease in steel procurement. On the other hand, the country's construction orders (including civil engineering) in January increased by 3.4% year-on-year to 693000 tons; The non residential construction industry has shown particularly strong performance, with a year-on-year growth of approximately 7% to 279000 tons. It is expected that market sentiment will remain cautious in the short term, and market SPH780 steel prices will fluctuate.
