We recently learned that on April 26, 2024, about a month later, Kardemir of Türkiye returned to the local billet market in Türkiye and lowered the quotation for billet.
According to the latest quotation issued by Türkiye on April 26, 2024, the quotation for S235 150 * 150 billet is 545 dollars/ton EXW, which is 10 dollars/ton lower than the S45C steel quotation on March 27, and the quotation for B420 150 * 150 billet is 560 dollars/ton EXW, which is 5 dollars/ton lower than the quotation issued on March 27. In the latest quotation, Kardemir also stated that they still do not accept orders for rebar and pig iron.
With regard to Kardemir's latest S45C steel billet quotation, some market participants said that now the Türkiye billet market is gradually recovering, but after Kardemir reduces the billet quotation, it may affect the subsequent price trend of Türkiye billet. Türkiye does not favor the Black Sea billet resources with advantageous import prices recently. Therefore, before Kardemir updated its quotation, Türkiye's local and import billet prices were both high, which also supported the price of Türkiye's long products. However, if the price of Türkiye billet drops now, then the price of Türkiye S45C steel long products will also be affected later.
We understand that the export price of the black sea billet resources is about 503 dollars/ton FOB, and the import price of Türkiye billet is about 525 dollars/ton CFR.
