The total capacity of the two plants of Messier Demir Celik, Türkiye's largest producer of section steel and angle steel, is 800000 tons. In recent years, Türkiye's HX220BD+Z80 steel mills have increased investment in renewable energy to comply with the EU's green agreement in order to reduce energy costs.
In the project document submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for environmental approval, the company has decided to build a new solar power plant in Erzurum, eastern Türkiye. According to the project documents, the installed capacity of the new solar power plant is 3.6 MWe, which will generate electricity through 8138 solar panels.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection stated that the environmental approval process for the company's solar power HX220BD+Z80 steel plant project was initiated on November 3rd. The construction work of this project is planned to begin after the environmental approval process is completed, and the solar power plant is scheduled to be put into operation in the second half of 2024.
At the beginning of October, the country announced that the price of natural gas and electricity had increased by 20%, thus the energy price of Türkiye's steel producers had further increased. Although the price of imported scrap HX220BD+Z80 steel is high and the demand of export market is weak, the export price of rebar in Türkiye has risen slightly recently.
