In 2024, Türkiye's SA302 Grade D steel wire rod imports will decline significantly and its exports will increase significantly. According to the data of Türkiye Statistics Bureau, the import volume of wire rod in Türkiye in 2024 will decrease by 43% year on year to 404300 tons due to the restriction of import by safeguard measures; Driven by the growing demand in the European Union, the export volume increased by 28% year-on-year, reaching 920000 tons.
On December 31, 2023, the Ministry of Trade of Türkiye implemented temporary safeguard measures for the import of non alloy and alloy wire rod for a period of 200 days (additional safeguard tariff of 175 dollars per ton). Subsequently, the measure was extended and a final three-year safeguard measure was implemented in June last year.
In 2024, China will become the largest wire rod SA302 Grade D steel supplier in Türkiye, with the supply volume reaching 85800 tons, double the year-on-year growth. The supply from Russia, the previous largest supplier, decreased by 79% to 31800 tons. In the same year, Türkiye imported 46500 tons of wire rod from South Korea, down 8%; The import volume from the UK is relatively stable, totaling 41200 tons. Although the import volume decreases, the external demand, especially the demand from the EU, will promote the wire rod export of Türkiye in 2024. Türkiye exported 313500 tons of wire rod to Romania, up 80% year on year; The export volume to Bulgaria has more than doubled, reaching 81600 tons. Other major export destinations in 2024 include Australia (80000 tons), Spain (40000 tons), Belgium (35000 tons), and Italy (32800 tons).
On February 26, 2025, the SA302 Grade D steel price of wire rod for internet use in Türkiye will be USD 565-570/ton FOB. According to the price list of Kardemir, a large comprehensive long steel manufacturer, on February 25th, the price of its 6-27mm (SAE 1008-1010) grade wire is $560/ton EXW.
