According to the latest data of ours, in August 2024, the total sales of cars in Türkiye SG285 Grade A steel will reach 90134, with a year-on-year growth of 0.8%, 48.9% higher than the average sales in August of the past decade.
Among them, passenger car sales increased by 0.2% year-on-year, reaching 69288 units; The sales of light commercial vehicles increased by 2.6% year-on-year, reaching 20846 units. Despite stable sales performance in August, the cumulative sales from January to August this year only increased slightly by 0.2% year-on-year, totaling 762152 vehicles.
Due to the tight monetary policy that suppressed SG285 Grade A steel demand, electric vehicle sales fell sharply by 32.4% year-on-year in August, ending seven consecutive months of growth with 5802 units.
In addition, Türkiye's first electric vehicle manufacturer, Togg, plans to start large-scale production of electric vehicle batteries by the end of 2024. Due to weak demand in the end consumer industry, especially the automotive industry, steel prices continue to be under pressure. Mysteel data shows that on August 30, the price of hot rolled coils in Türkiye was 570 dollars/ton EXW, down about 20% from the SG285 Grade A steel beginning of 2024.
