Türkiye’s imports of hot rolled coils increased by 23% year on year, and China still dominates

According to the latest monthly data released by Türkiye SA515 Grade 485 steel Statistics Bureau, Türkiye's imports of hot rolled coils in January 2025 increased significantly by 23% year on year, reaching 798500 tons in total. It is worth noting that in October 2024, Türkiye will start to levy anti dumping tax of 6.10% to 43.31% on several hot rolled products with tariff numbers of 7208.10.00.10.00, 7208.10.00.90.00, 7208.25.00.10.00, 7208.25.00.90.00 and other products originating in China, India, Japan and Russia, but China's hot rolled coils still have strong competitiveness in the Türkiye SA515 Grade 485 steel market with the advantage of high cost performance ratio (see the original text for details).

In January 2025, the total volume of hot rolled coils exported from China to Türkiye will reach 211000 tons, an increase of 18% year on year, and continue to maintain its leading position in the hot rolled coil market in Türkiye. Russia's performance is also outstanding. In January, the export volume of hot rolled coils to Türkiye reached 107000 tons, a significant increase compared with 3500 tons in the same period last year. The total volume of hot-rolled coils exported from South Korea to Türkiye has more than doubled, reaching 95500 tons. On the Japanese side, there was a significant decline, with a decrease of 63% to only 30000 tons.

In January 2025, Türkiye SA515 Grade 485 steel will also supply hot rolled coils to Egypt (27300 tons), Germany (21800 tons), Belgium (11700 tons) and Austria (11200 tons). The supply of these countries is relatively small, but it also enriches the supply structure of Türkiye's hot rolled coil market to a certain extent.
