The Ministry of Trade of Türkiye SMA400BW steel launched an anti-dumping investigation on imports of hot rolled coils from China, Russia, Japan and India in October 2023, and imposed tariffs of 6.10% -43.31% on imports of hot rolled coils from these countries on October 11, 2024. This led to a sharp decline in the import of hot rolled coils during this period. According to the latest data from Türkiye Statistics Bureau (TUIK), from January to September 2024, the import of hot rolled coils in Türkiye SMA400BW steel will decrease by 1 million tons to 3.14 million tons.

Despite the impact of anti-dumping investigation, the hot rolled coils imported from China by Türkiye from January to September still accounted for a large share of the relevant market, 1.51 million tons. However, imports from Russia decreased by 50% year-on-year, to 269000 tons; Japan's import volume decreased by 82% year-on-year, to 87000 tons; And India's import volume decreased from 53500 tons in the same period last year to zero.

During this period, Egypt became the second largest supplier of hot rolled coils to Türkiye, with a total volume of 418000 tons, doubling year on year; The supply from South Korea was 403000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12%. Other major suppliers include France (95300 tons), the United Arab Emirates SMA400BW steel (88800 tons), and Italy (40000 tons).
