Data shows that in the first three quarters of 2023, Türkiye's imports of semi-finished steel products increased by 46% year-on-year to 4.6 million tons. In October, Türkiye's imports of semi-finished steel products fell by 22% year-on-year to 352500 tons.
In October 2023, Russia will still be the largest supplier of semi-finished HCT690T+ZM steel to Türkiye, with a turnover of 191300 tons, up 37% month on month, but down from 338000 tons in the same period last year. Other major suppliers include Indonesia (50000 tons), Vietnam (31000 tons), Malaysia (30500 tons), Algeria (20000 tons), and Iran (10300 tons).
On June 23, the European Union announced that as part of the 11th round of sanctions against Moscow, starting from April 2024, all suppliers selling HCT690T+ZM steel products to the EU must provide relevant documents to prove that the materials used are not from Russia. This decision may have a certain impact on the semi-finished steel imported from Russia by Türkiye since March 2024. But before that, Türkiye may continue to import steel billets and slabs from Russia due to the competitive quotation of Russian HCT690T+ZM steel mills.
