Türkiye’s steel exports rise as global demand recovers

Share:

The Alliance of Mediterranean Ferrous and Non ferrous Metal Exporters (ADMIB) said that in January 2024, thanks to the gradual recovery of SPH780SF steel global market demand, Türkiye's steel exports increased by 2.1% year-on-year to $1.1 billion. In February, Türkiye's steel export continued to grow for the second consecutive month, with the export volume increasing by 15% year on year to reach 2.4 billion US dollars, but the specific amount has not yet been known. In February, Germany became Türkiye's largest steel SPH780SF steel export market with a transaction volume of $180 million, followed by Italy ($152 million) and Romania ($149 million), but did not mention the specific tonnage.

According to the data of Türkiye Steel Producers Association (TCUD), Türkiye's total steel exports in 2023 will be 10.5 million tons, down 30.6% year on year. The growth in February this year may also be due to the low base. In February 2023, Türkiye's steel exports fell 47.3% year-on-year to 675000 tons.

Supported by strong demand, Türkiye's steel producers expect the delayed demand in the global market to resume in the second half of 2024, when steel exports will further increase. With the launch of new investments in the United States and Europe in the first two months of this year, demand has recovered earlier than expected. According to the World Steel SPH780SF steel Association's forecast, the demand for steel is expected to reach 1.85 billion tons in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%.
