Share:

EMSTEEL Steel Company in the United Arab Emirates SG460Q Grade C steel has successfully completed a pilot project for green steel production, which is expected to accelerate the green transformation of the steel industry.

The official statement states that EMSTEL and Masdar have announced the official launch of the first green hydrogen energy SG460Q Grade C steel project in the Middle East and North Africa region, aimed at helping the local steel industry decarbonize. It is reported that the project utilizes green hydrogen to extract iron from iron ore, which is a key step in the steelmaking process. The renewable hydrogen produced by this project is based on the latest ISO 19870 hydrogen research method and has passed the laboratory certification of the International Traceability Standards Foundation. The project is currently fully operational and has successfully started producing green steel. This statement marks an increase in global demand for green steel and a breakthrough in decarbonization technology in the UAE.

At the end of 2023, EMSTEL, the largest steel and building materials listed company in the UAE, established a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to jointly develop hydrogen energy applications. It is reported that Masdar aims to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen or equivalent derivatives within ten years.

In July 2024, the United Arab Emirates launched a national green certification program to promote the use of sustainable building steel, including steel. The official statement states that the UAE is committed to promoting decarbonization in the steel industry and the upcoming zero net emissions strategy initiative by 2050. As of 2023, the clean energy utilization rate in the UAE has reached over 80%. The collaboration between EMSTEL and Masdar will continue to play an important role in decarbonizing the steel SG460Q Grade C steel industry and downstream supply chains.
