Emirates Steel Arkan is one of the largest listed companies in the steel, building materials, and construction industries in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. Recently, the company announced a strategic partnership with energy company Masdar Abu Dhabi to jointly promote the use of green hydrogen in steel production and promote the green transformation of
HX180BD+ZM steel.
Both parties will collaborate to develop an innovative project that utilizes green hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions from steel production. The CEO of UAE
HX180BD+ZM Steel stated that the company recognizes the importance of partnerships in achieving its carbon reduction aspirations, and this project will make the company the first in the steel industry in Central and Northeast Africa to adopt green hydrogen solutions for sustainable steel production.
It is reported that the project is located in the UAE
HX180BD+ZM Steel production plant in Abu Dhabi Industrial City. The electrolytic cell is a key equipment for producing hydrogen and is currently in the installation stage. It is expected to be completed and put into testing in early 2024 to achieve the use of green hydrogen instead of natural gas for reducing iron ore. The electricity for producing green hydrogen comes from renewable energy sources such as wind or solar energy.
The company's head stated that the project will not only help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but also enhance the competitiveness of UAE Steel in the global market.
